As autumn settles over Colorado, the Denver area’s downtowns become even more picturesque, with colorful foliage and seasonal events adding to their year-round charm. Let’s look at some of the most charming towns around Denver to enjoy this fall.
1. Evergreen
While Evergreen is just a short drive from Denver, this small alpine community feels far removed from the city. Surrounded by mountains, forests, and waterways, Evergreen bursts into brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow each fall. Its quaint downtown may be small, but it’s brimming with charm, featuring art galleries, performance venues, and delicious local eateries. Downtown also hosts festive autumn events, such as the Halloween Walk. Evergreen’s real estate market is very competitive. In September, according to Redfin, the median sale price in Evergreen was $775,000, and properties sold after an average of about 41 days on the market.

Parker, located just south of Denver, has seen rapid growth as more buyers are drawn to the area. With its nearby golf courses and popular local parks, Parker is a great place to visit any time of year, but its historic downtown is the real highlight. Downtown Parker has a delightful Victorian ambiance, with picturesque brick buildings lining the streets. It’s home to a variety of independent businesses and dining destinations, making it one of the top places to live in the Denver area. According to Redfin, homes in Parker sold in about 35 days, and the median sale price was $675,000 in September.
3. Boulder
Boulder is a prominent city nestled in the Rocky Mountains, offering stunning natural beauty and a dynamic cultural scene. Known for its college-town atmosphere, thanks to the University of Colorado Boulder, and its bustling start-up scene, Boulder is a thriving hub. Downtown Boulder, especially around Pearl Street, is filled with shops, microbreweries, and restaurants, making it a lively spot year-round. Every autumn, downtown hosts popular events, including the Pearl Street Stampedes, taking place before each of the university’s home football games, and the Munchkin Masquerade on Halloween. Boulder’s real estate scene reflects the city’s desirability, with a median sale price of $970,000 in September, according to Redfin.
4. Castle Rock
Castle Rock, a fast-growing Denver suburb, has seen a population boom over the past decade, attracting thousands of new residents each year. With its natural beauty and excellent hiking trails, it’s a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly during the fall. Despite its growth, Castle Rock’s downtown retains a cozy, small-town feel, with restaurants, cafes, and boutiques lining the streets. Home prices are typical for the area, with Redfin reporting a median sale price of $650,000 in September.
