Since 2009, Coral Gables–based Errez Design has transformed residential and commercial spaces throughout South Florida. Founded by husband-and-wife team Ruben and Katie Gutierrez, the firm blends architectural expertise with meticulous project execution, managing everything from space planning and material selection to custom furnishings and full-scale renovations. Their portfolio spans intimate redesigns to expansive luxury estates. We spoke with co-founder Ruben Gutierrez about the firm’s distinctive approach, recent projects, and the philosophy that drives their work.

HAVEN: Your website highlights that you aimed to bring something new to the industry through founding Errez Design. Could you elaborate on what sets Errez Design apart and your overall design philosophy?
Ruben: One of the most inspiring things in design is stepping into the home of someone who has lived there for decades — a space layered with patina, personality, and stories. We’ve always been drawn to interiors that feel like they’ve evolved over time, but when we started Errez Interior Design, we found that approach was rare in Miami.

That’s why we developed our maximalist, biographical style. Every project begins with the client’s story and grows into a space that’s personal, bold, and deeply comfortable. The result is timeless interiors that feel rooted in history, yet full of quirky eclecticism and even a sense of humor. It’s not about following trends — it’s about creating homes that truly reflect the lives lived within them.
For example, one client’s underused formal living room became the heart of the home once we reimagined it as a lounge. We brought in a pool table for play, a curated bookcase for reflection, and a grand piano for music and gatherings. What was once a forgotten room is now the centerpiece of the house — a vibrant expression of the family’s personality and lifestyle.

HAVEN: Which recent projects are you most excited about, and why?
Ruben: We’re fortunate to work on some incredible homes for private clients throughout South Florida. Recent highlights include a residence at the Boca Club for a well-traveled design enthusiast and a contemporary home filled with bold color for a storied artist. Each project gives us the opportunity to translate a client’s unique story into a one-of-a-kind interior.
At the same time, we’re equally passionate about projects that give back to the community. We’re especially honored to be working on the relocation of the beloved South Miami institution, Deli Lane. Our goal is to preserve the neighborhood charm that generations have cherished while reimagining it as a vibrant gathering place for years to come.

HAVEN: Based on your experience and current design trends, what advice would you give those planning a build or renovation?
Ruben: As you can tell, I’m not a big believer in “trends” as we’ve come to know them. What excites me is the shift away from the minimalist white glass box aesthetic toward interiors that embrace personality, color, and rich textures. More and more, we’re seeing clients curate their spaces with cultural influences, meaningful objects, and natural materials that only get better with age.
My advice is to focus less on what’s fashionable in the moment and more on what you truly love. Build collections over time, surround yourself with pieces that hold personal meaning, and don’t be afraid of patina — it tells your story. The most timeless interiors are the ones rooted in authenticity, not trend cycles.
