The State Fair of Texas is a vibrant showcase of Texas culture, agriculture, and entertainment. Under the leadership of President Mitchell Glieber, who has guided the organization since 2014, this iconic event continues to evolve while honoring its rich heritage. Established in 1886, this iconic event has welcomed millions of visitors over nearly 140 years, evolving into one of the largest state fairs in the United States. The fair’s most recognizable symbol, Big Tex, has greeted visitors since 1952 as a towering 55-foot cowboy figure, becoming an integral part of Texas folklore and the fair’s identity. Originally conceived to promote Texas agriculture and livestock, the fair has maintained its agricultural roots while expanding to encompass everything from cutting-edge technology displays to premier entertainment venues.

Throughout the Southwest and beyond, the State Fair of Texas has earned recognition as a premier destination that captures the authentic spirit of Texas hospitality and tradition. The fair’s reputation extends well beyond state borders, drawing visitors from across the nation who come to experience what many consider the quintessential American fair experience. Local communities throughout Texas view the annual event as a cultural touchstone, with many families maintaining multi-generational traditions of attendance. The fair has become synonymous with Texas pride, offering visitors an immersive experience that celebrates everything from the state’s agricultural foundations to its modern innovations. Food enthusiasts particularly recognize the fair for its culinary creativity, where traditional Texas flavors meet inventive preparation methods, creating dishes that often influence food trends nationwide.

This year’s fair will run from September 26 through October 19, offering visitors 24 days of entertainment, education, and celebration at Fair Park in Dallas. The fair features more than 100 free daily activities included with admission, ranging from livestock competitions and agricultural demonstrations to live musical performances and educational exhibits. Visitors can explore the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium, which hosts the annual Red River Showdown between the University of Texas and University of Oklahoma, as well as the State Fair Classic featuring Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M University on September 27. The midway offers traditional carnival rides and games, while the Creative Arts Building showcases Texas artisans and craftspeople.
