The 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500, one of the defining races on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar, will take place Sunday, May 24, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It will close out nearly two weeks of practice, qualifying, and race-weekend traditions at the Brickyard.

The schedule begins with practice on May 12 and continues through qualifying weekend on May 16–17, when starting positions are set and the race-day grid takes shape. Race weekend then builds through Carb Day on May 22, Legends Day on May 23, and Race Day on May 24.

The race combines scale, speed, and tradition. Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s 2.5-mile oval remains one of the most recognizable venues in motorsports, with the race itself covering 500 miles and 200 laps. For longtime fans, the weekend is tied as much to the rituals around the race as to the competition, from qualifying to the pre-race ceremonies and the green flag.

The field will be finalized after qualifying, but several storylines are already taking shape. Alex Palou enters the Month of May as the reigning Indianapolis 500 winner after his 2025 victory, while Ryan Hunter-Reay, the 2014 Indy 500 champion, is set to join Arrow McLaren as part of the team’s fourth Indy 500 entry.

For attendees, the Indianapolis 500 is structured as a full race-weekend experience. IMS offers grandstand seating, general admission, parking and camping options, premium hospitality, and special-access experiences across the Month of May. Carb Day and Legends Day bring final practice, driver access, and fan programming into the days leading up to the race.

With its Memorial Day weekend timing, long-running traditions, and 500-mile format, the 2026 Indianapolis 500 remains one of the country’s signature sporting events. Tickets, schedules, and premium options are available through the Indianapolis Motor Speedway website.
