Norfolk Harborfest returns to Town Point Park from June 19–21, marking its 50th year with a weekend of tall ships, live music, fireworks, family programming, and waterfront events along downtown Norfolk’s Elizabeth River. The festival, one of Hampton Roads’ signature summer gatherings, is free and open to the public.
This year’s edition carries extra weight. Harborfest’s milestone year coincides with Juneteenth and Sail250® Virginia, part of the national commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary. Sail250® Virginia will bring more than 60 vessels to Hampton Roads and Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay region, including an international fleet of tall ships, military vessels, traditional Chesapeake Bay watercraft, and character vessels, with Norfolk serving as the official host city from June 19–23.
The weekend’s defining moment comes on Friday with the Parade of Sail. The procession begins in the Lynnhaven Roads anchorage near the Lesner Bridge in Virginia Beach, travels through Hampton Roads and up the Elizabeth River, and is expected to reach Town Point Park around noon. For visitors gathered downtown, the arrival of tall ships and other vessels will turn the waterfront into the center of one of the region’s largest maritime celebrations.

Harborfest’s music performances are another core part of the event. The lineup includes Patti LaBelle, who headlines Friday night, followed by a new fireworks show over the Elizabeth River. Saturday’s lineup is led by Fitz and the Tantrums and another fireworks display, while Sunday closes with JJ Grey & Mofro. The main-stage schedule also includes Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary, Roberta Lea, The Last Bison, No BS! Brass, and other regional and national acts.
Beyond the concerts, the festival includes Navy exhibits and demonstrations, interactive family activities, artisan food and beverage vendors, and maritime programming across the downtown waterfront. Public ship visitation is also scheduled during the Sail250® Virginia weekend, with individual vessel schedules varying by ship.
The setting remains central to Harborfest’s draw. Town Point Park places the event directly along downtown Norfolk’s waterfront, within walking distance of Waterside, Nauticus, hotels, restaurants, and other visitor destinations.
