Each winter, the PGA TOUR’s West Coast stretch finds one of its most cinematic stages along the cliffs of La Jolla. The 2026 Farmers Insurance Open returns to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego from Thursday, January 29 through Sunday, February 1—restoring the tournament’s familiar Thursday–Sunday rhythm and bringing a classic finish back to the coastline.
At Torrey Pines, the Pacific Ocean sits just beyond the fairways, and the wind—often subtle until it isn’t—can turn a straightforward line into a decision. The atmosphere feels distinctly Southern California: bright, open, and effortless to take in, even as the golf itself demands focus.
Torrey Pines’ championship pedigree is well established. The South Course, a par 72 measuring 7,765 yards, has hosted the U.S. Open twice in 2008 and 2021, and it continues to rank among the TOUR’s most exacting venues when conditions firm up.

The event’s early rounds highlight Torrey’s full personality. Thursday and Friday feature play across both the North and South Courses, a format that creates two distinct looks at scoring—before the weekend narrows the focus and intensifies the pressure. The result is a tournament that often rewards patience as much as power: a stretch where conservative targets can be as valuable as aggressive ones, and where the leaderboard rarely settles until late Sunday.
Placed within the broader West Coast Swing, the event functions as an early-season barometer—where form, ball-striking, and decision-making are tested against one of the country’s most recognizable public golf backdrops. It’s also a natural fit for San Diego’s winter appeal: a destination where the day’s anchor can be championship golf, with the city’s beaches, dining, and neighborhoods offering an easy second act once play wraps.
